Actually the one that wanted to die was the first one that tucker created. He fused his wife and a dog and got the funding from the army to continue his research yo make a dog with the intelligence of a human. He was about to loose funding as he wasn't showing results with just splicing animals together. In a fit of desperation he fell back on his first success and fused his daughter and the dog into one in order to get more funding and extend his time on the elite of the military payroll. The reason that the first one failed was that his wife's brain was more developed and was able to still understand what happened to her after being fused with a dog, so she starved herself and died. The daughter..... not so much. She watched as a mass murderer killed her father only to be killed herself as a "mercy".
